Safety pins

You will need a couple hundred safety pins for basting a lap quilt. The safety pins help hold the layers together while you machine quilt your piece. The more pins you use, the less fabric shifting.

Always use nickel plated or stainles steel pins. Do not be fooled by advertisements that claim their pins to be quilting pins. Often brass and other pins will rust and leave marks on your quilt.
