Reverse applique

The heart below is an example of reverse applique. The white fabric is on top of the red fabric. The "teardrops" were cut from the white fabric so the red would show through. This pattern came from the book Baltimore Beauties and Beyond, Volume One by Elly Sienkiewicz.
