Rotary Cutting (Rules for half square triangles and quarter square triangles are in parentheses):

A - cut 1 - 3 7/8 inch square (3 + 7/8) and then cut on the diagonal.
B - cut 1 - 3 7/8 inch square (3 + 7/8) and then cut on the diagonal. You will end up with an extra triangle - save it for another basket block.
C - cut 2 - 3 1/2 inch x 2 inch rectangles.
D - cut 1 - 2 3/8 inch square (1 ½ + 7/8) for legs.
E - cut 1 - 2 inch square.
F - cut 1 - 4 1/4 inch square (3 + 1 1/4) and then cut on both diagonals.
G - cut 4 - 2 3/8 inch square (1 ½ + 7/8) for basket handle.


Sewing:

Sew A to B. Press. We will call this your A/B unit. Your A/B unit should measure 3 1/2 inches by 3 1/2 inches.

Sew C to D. Make two units. Press. These units will be mirror images. We will call these your C/D units.

Make a "Flying Geese" unit by sewing G1 to F on the diagonal. Press. Sew G2 to F. Press. We will call this your F/G unit. You will make a total of 2 F/G units. Each finished unit should measure 3 1/2 inches by 2 inches.

Sew 1 F/G unit to E. Press toward E.


Sew 1 F/G unit to A/B. Press toward A/B. (Watch for the point.)

Sew F/G/E unit to F/G/A/B unit. Press. (Match seams. Watch for the point.)

Sew C/D units to each side of the basket. Press.

Sew A to the unit. (Fold in half and match fold to bottom basket point. Watch for the point.)


Your basket block should measure 6 1/2 inches. (Your block will measure 6 inches when completely finished.)
